In a true powerhouse battle, Kangoeroes Mechelen stayed perfect last weekend in a 69-54 win over Castors Braine.
It's a regular thing these last few seasons: Kangoeroes Mechelen and Castors Braine battling for the crown in Top Division Women.
Last weekend but teams faced each other for the first time this season, meaning one team would lose their perfect status. Kangoeroes had the home court advantage of the Winketkaai, but it was Castors who started great. Remenarova hit two triples and they went on a 0-9 run to start the game. Believe it or not, but it was only after 6 minutes of play that Kangoeroes made their first basket. They somehow recovered from their bad start en ended things 10-13 after the first quarter. Kangoeroes kept trailing in the second quarter, despite great efforts from Renée Denys: 32-34.
With 2:29 to go in the third period, Cate Reese tied things up at 42-42. It was from that point on that Kangoeroes went on a run and never looked back. They closed out the game on a 27-12 and secured the great comeback victory over their rivals: 69-54.
Lea Debeljak secured MVP honors with 24 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals for Kangoeroes. American forward Cate Reese added 17 points and 16 rebounds. In the losing effort, Quay Miller ended up with 20 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists.
